Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter is a new facility designed to meet the needs of Rabun County. Our Board conducted extensive interviews with county officials and other animal shelters to design a facility to serve Rabun County with quarantine, inoculation, evaluation, adoption, spay and neutering programs, education programs, and community outreach.
In June, 2003, construction began on a 9,457-square-foot facility situated on 3.71 acres of land at the edge of a beautiful tract of U.S. Forest Service land on East Boggs Mountain Road in Tiger, Georgia. The property is owned by Rabun County and is leased to the Shelter for $1 per year. The shelter opened its doors in August, 2004.
Rabun County Development Authority has incorporated the Shelter into a Master Plan for a 45-acre multipurpose development which ultimately will include a new U.S. Forestry facility, a 100-bed minimum security detention facility, a technology business park for emerging industries, and a hotel and conference center.
