Lowanda “Peanut” Kilby, a native of Rabun County, has been the Director of Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter for 4 years.

Peanut worked for YMCA Camp High Harbor on Lake Burton for ten years, where she was the Equestrian Director and Grounds Maintainance Director. She managed a large horse barn and dealt with not only the health of the animals in the riding program, but with the families and children in her care. She managed 15 counsellors, and 200-300 kids a week in the riding program. She is certified with the DNR to rehabilitate orphaned and injured wildlife.

Peanut has also driven a school bus for the Rabun County Board of Education for 16 years. Most recently, she has worked as a salesperson and tour guide for Apple Mountain Resort in Clarkesville, Georgia.

Almost everyone in Rabun County knows Peanut and her family. She is personable, professional and a true animal lover. She is very motivated, and is interested in improving the Educational Program and adding a rescue service for equines, in addition to the many services already in place at Boggs Mountain Humane Shelter.
